In 2008, the El Paso Community Foundation started the Plaza Classic Film Festival as a special project to bring movies back to the historic Plaza Theatre. Opened in 1930, the atmospheric theatre was restored in 2006 in a joint partnership with with EPCF and the City of El Paso. EPCF purchased 35mm and digital projection equipment to show classic films, family favorites and productions from local filmmakers. To promote the annual event and provide a schedule for showtimes, we developed the website for the festival and design the program each year.
The website features key information like the movie schedule and profiles for special guests and the ability to buy tickets and passes. EPCF can easily update the movie schedule and special guest profiles, along with the rest of the website content using the content management system. The design incorporates images of the historic building and illustrations inspired by the atmospheric theatre’s architecture.
We created a flexible template for the festival program that allows us to maintain brand consistency, while allowing for changes to best accommodate the images and information that change from year to year. Utilizing the same fonts and sampling from the brand color palette, we are able to add interest by highlighting specific information and add accent elements without starting over on design each year. The resulting program is clean, easy to read and useful for new and returning attendees.
